For the 18th time, "Die Presse" honours outstanding family-owned companies in Austria. The state victory in Carinthia went to the family business Rudolf Frierss & Söhne, which is now in its fifth generation.
By the beginning of April, all family businesses based in Austria had been able to apply. The decisive factors were sustainable success and a solid future perspective. All submissions were then examined, analysed and evaluated by a renowned jury of experts under the patronage of Economics Minister Margarete Schramböck. The award "Austria's best family business" went to Greiner Holding AG in Upper Austria, the regional victory went to the delicatessen specialist Frierss, who was awarded the title "Carinthia's best family business".
Family tradition with success
Since 1898, the family business has been well known for its high-quality sausage and ham specialities. "120 years of experience, traditional family recipes and Austrian raw materials guarantee a special taste," says Rudolf Frierss. The recently received DLG award for long-term product quality confirms the top quality.
"The pursuit of the best taste and pioneering spirit has always shaped our family. Our great-grandfather, as founder of the 1st butcher's shop in Villach, already did pioneering work, as did my grandfather and father, who did pioneering work above all with special Italian specialities such as Frierss Mortadella or Prosciutto Castello," says Frierss.
Frierss is best known for his original Carinthian specialities (Carinthian bacon, farm ham, original Carinthian sausages), his Prosciutto and Mortadella, which have also been exported to Germany, Croatia, Italy, Holland, Japan for 15 years and this year for the first time to South Korea (Supporter Austria House/Olympia).
The Frierss family is also successful with its unique gastronomic concept "Frierss Feines Haus", which combines restaurant, gourmet & delicatessen and is now one of Austria's best culinary addresses (96 A la Carte points). On 30 June, the Feine Haus celebrates its 5th anniversary year with a special "Best of 5" special.
